Lao zi chapter 5– to hold and fill is not as good as to give up. If a sword edge is sharpened to its sharpest extent, it will be hard for it to last long.

This is a saying that actually means that if one if trying to make it to be 100% perfect, it will eventually breaks fast. This theory actually applies to many situations in one life.

Are you the type who wants to make things to be 100% perfect before you make it into action? Then you found that you give up halfway because you can never make it to perfect for you to publish it? This situation can happen a lot to an author or artist as they feel that the works they done are not good enough. As a result, they procrastinate and give up. The solution for this is to strive to excel, do the best you can and then let it be in action regardless imperfect it looks in your eyes, and you will feel it is much better. There are times, doing action regardless of perfect or not is better than one procrastinate and stop halfway. On the other hand, there are times when the situation requires non-action first and then only action.

Therefore, it is said that if one sharpen the sword to the sharpest, it will be easily break. This may be applying the same to any person, if the person works hard for too long without any rest. Eventually the person will resign.
